Karditsa is a place full of surprises. Agrafa mountain chain and the Thessallic plain create a unique atmosphere. The acquaintance with Karditsa prefecture will fill you with unique feelings and pictures.

Karditsa is the smallest prefecture of Thessaly, situated at the southwest part of the periphery. 49% of the prefecture is lowland, 42% mountainous, while the rest 9% is semi-mountainous.
Southwest of the prefecture are the mountain chains of Pindos and Agrafa with dense vegetation, fir trees, oaks, planes and plenty of water.
Northeastwards is the Thessalic plain with fertile valleys and long tempestuous history. This contrast offers alternative entertainment suggestions to all visitors.

Capital of the prefecture is Karditsa, in the west end of the Thesalic plain. The city is built right next to Pinios tributary, 10 km from the foothills of Pindos mountain.
According to tradition, the city was named after its location, as it is situated in the heart of epirotic Greece.
Karditsa is a modern city, which combines the peaceful country life with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The options for entertainment satisfy all demands.

The peregrination around the villages, will be unforgettable. The traditional settlement of Rentina, the Queen of Agrafa, as the locals call it, is very impressive.
The mountainous Argithea with the cobblestone traditional houses and dense vegetation will amaze you.
The area’s history is revealed in Fanari, the Byzantine Castle , and in Mavromati, the cave where Goergios Karaiskakis was born.
