Krioneri

The beautiful village of Krioneri is built in a 850 m height, northwestwards of Plastira lake. It is 22 km from the town of Karditsa. The village was once known as Tsifliki. This old settlement was located eastwards of the current village. According to the local tradition, the residents had to abandon he village due to the epidemic of malaria. The village then was named Stougo. In 1525, after the convention of Tamasi, many people went to live in the lowlands. The village then was renamed into Mega Stougo. The current name, Krioneri, was eventually given in 1935.
Krioneri is the only lake side village with a nursery school, which means that there are many young people living here permanently. The residents are very hospitable. All around the region you will find rooms to let providing a comfortable stay in a quiet and idyllic landscape.
You will also find many taverns, chop-houses and cafes.
