Trikala prefecture is one of the four prefectures of Thessaly. Situated at the center of Greece, Trikala are mostly mountainous with beautiful traditional settlements perched on Pindos slopes.
A tour around the prefecture can be a real surprise for every lover of nature, as he sees unique natural landscapes where he can relax, entertain or exercise.
The prefecture of Trikala lies in the northwest part of Thessaly and is comprised by Trikala and Kalambaka. The best villages are Elati (Tyrna) and Pertouli. Although they are developed in tourism, people still keep the mores and traditions alive.
Meteora is a village everyone ought to visit. The gigantic rocks are a rare geological phenomenon that leave no one untouched. There, at the abrupt rocks was created the East Orthodox Ascetic Monastery during the 11th century. It is a human miracle proving how strong human will can be.
The whole region is famous for its important route though time, which is shown at the important historic monuments.
The ground is alpine with many forests and grasslands. 66% of this ground is mountainous, 14% is semi-mountainous, while the rest 20% is lowland.
Trikala are the capital of the homonym prefecture, as and the head of Trikkeon municipality. The town of Trikala is situated at the foothills of the last Hasia mountain. Litheos, a tributary of Pinios river, passes thought the town of Trikala. This river is connected with mythological narrations and creates a unique landscape inside the town.
Trikala is a beautiful modern town, offering a wide range of activities to its guests. Asklipios foot-walk and “Manavika” region are the ideal places for your night entertainment.
If you are a lover of sports, especially extreme sports, Trikala is the place to be. You can choose among hiking, mountaineering, parachuting, mountain biking and ski. Meterora, Elati and Pertouli are ideal. There are experienced trainers to help you, while you are enjoying your favorite sport. Pertouli has a ski center. If you prefer water sports try canoeing, rafting, or fishing.
While of you like riding, visit the riding center in Pertouli and choose one of the suggested routes.
