Domnista

Domnista is a beautiful mountainous village at the southeast part of Evritania prefecture. Many important historic incidents have taken place in Domnista. It is built in a 1000 m altitude, 41 km from Karpenissi. Administratively it belongs to the Municipality of Domnista and Krikello is the headquarter.
The surrounding area is really beautiful, with traditional villages and fir forests. They have all the tourist infrastructures and attract visitors all year round. You will find rooms to let, taverns, cafes and shops.
According to history, Domnista was named after king Evritos’ daughter, Domna. The excavations have brought into light the remains of the ancient town Fantino.
It is said that Karaiskakis found shelter in Domnista, when Greeks and Turkish chased him in the summer of 1824. Aris Velouhiotis, in 1942, started his struggle against Germans from Domnista.
Domnista will really enchant you with its natural beauties. The fir forests, the picturesque settlements and Krikellopotamos, one of the biggest rivers in the prefecture are pictures you will never forget.
The Folklore and Historic museum exhibit important displays, which reveal the traditional way of life in the region.
Visit the churches of Saint Athanasios, Saint Kiriaki, Saints Theodori, Saint Haralambos and Saint Nikolaos. You will see impressive handmade chancel screens and rare icons.
Domnista has many rivers and green fields. A real paradise for the lovers of nature.
