Koryschades

Koryschades is a small, traditional village 5 kilometers away from Karpenissi. Administratively it belongs to Karpenissi.
There are three versions about the derivation of its name. The first says that “Karpenissi” derives from the ancient greek word “korys, which means casque, the seconds says that it derives from “koryni” which means iron-bound cosh, while the third version says that it derives from “korysso”, which means supply.
Although relatively small, Koryschades village, have unique beauties and historic monuments. At “Paliokastro” hill you will see the remains of ancients graves and castles, while in “Kaminia” the remains of the old armoury.
It is worth visiting the museum of the National Ressistance, where the National Council of the Liberal Greece convened in May 12th of 1944. It is hosted at a Primary School of 1901.
Many old mansions are saved all around the village, as and the church of Saint Athanasios of 1865.
