Title: About Evia |
Evia is an island where many kinds of tourism thrive, such as alternative tourism, where visitors have many choices for activities that are close to nature. There is also religious tourism were visitors have the chance to visit impressive monasteries and churches that have great past and history ( such as the monastery of Osios David, Galataki Monastery, Hrisovalantou Monastery and many others ). Spa tourism is also very popular on Evia, and attracts visitors from all over the world. The hot spas of Aedipsos are well known from the ancient years for their healing properties. There are also the spas of Yaltra and Helia.
Evia is also very popular with Historian tourism, where one can visit ancient cities such as Eretria, ancient Kearinthos, Artemisio, as well as view the many Byzantine buildings and castles. There is also ecotourism, sea tourism, and athletic tourism, with events such as moto cross and mount biking being organized throughout the year.
We should also point out the fact that in Evia many kinds of fauna and trees are found only here. Visitors can come across pine, chestnut, plain and fir trees to name but a few. Visitors can also see the white skinned pine trees, Halepia pine tree ( pinus halepensis ), Black pine tree ( pinus nigra ) Cephalonean pine tree ( abies cephalonica ) and many more.
The wild life in Evia is also a very important aspect of the island, as there are ecosystems here, and within the mountains are more than 24 kinds of amphibian animals, more than 35 kinds of mammals and more than 94 kinds of birds
Evia is situated in Central Greece and has easy access either by the bridge of Halkis or by the coasts where the ports operate with many ferries operating daily routes. The travel network is quiet good.
The capital city of Evia is Halkis ( Halkida ), a beautiful modern city that has a great past and history, offering all the modern comforts combined with the traditional way of living.
