THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF GROTTAS
In the north side of the port, in location Grotta, the archaeological excavations brought into light the remains of Naxo's mycinaic town. According to the findings it is a part of the settlement's ancient market.
This town flourished in 1300BC. The place is now settled and you can visit it.
IRIA-DIONISO'S TEMPLE
The temple of Iria is located in village Livadi and it is dedicated to god Dionisos. The temple is of the 6th century BC. Besides the important structural findings, the excavations brought into light many offers to the god.
DIMITRA'S TEMPLE
Near village Sagri in position Giroulas the excavations brought into light the remains of an ancient temple dedicated to goddess Dimitra.
It is a structure dated from the times of oppressor Lygdamidos (530 BC) and belongs to his ambitious structural program, like the one of his friend from Athens Pesistratos.
The building has a square plan and an inner collonade of Ion style. It is a very rare, made of marble, building that half of it is saved. It gives information for the way the marble roof was made and for the first buildings of Ion style. It is the forerunner of classic attic architecture.
