Apiranthos

The "marble village" as the locals call it, is located in the center Naxos on the foothill of mountain Fanari. It is 25km far from Chora and impresses the visitor with its medieval architecture and the faith to tradition that distinguishes its residents. Particular characteristic of this village is the idiom and the flair that locals have towards arts. Women make the most beautiful webs. The village has a lot of byzantine churches, archaeological and laographic museums. It is worth to visit the towers of archons Sommaripa, Kastri, Bardani and the impressive tower of Zevgolis dated from the 17th century built on a rock near the village's entrance. Apiranthos is a hilly village with no beach. But near the village you can find the beaches of Moutsouna and Psili Ammos.
