Tragea - chalki
|
Tragea is located in central, hilly part of Naxos. Since ancient times to our days, Tragea has been the most fertile part of the island. It is a place full of olive trees and citrus fruits that produce the biggest amounts of the island's agricultural products. Between the plains you will find the villages of Halki, Acadimi, Chimarros, Kaloxilos, Damalas, Damarionas and Tsilikario.
Village Halki is the head of burg Drimalia and includes all the above villages and those of hilly Naxos. Halki has many old baronial residences that reveal the financial robustness the village once met.
Tragea is also known as "Mikros Mystras" because of the byzantine churches. Among the churches distinguish those of Panagia Protothroni, Panagia Drosiani and Saint George.
It is worth visiting the venetian castles of Gracia and Barotsi in Halki.
We recommend you to make a stop at the old citrus distillery in Halki and see the traditional way of making it.
