Potamos
|
Potamos is the biggest village in the island. They used to call it “Kyras Chorio”, due to the church of Panagia Ilariotissa. It is located in the north part of Kythira and it is the trade market of the region. The traditional Sunday bazaar attracts tourists.
Producers from all over the island gather in the village’s central square and sell local agricultural – and not only – products.
The settlement keeps its traditional colour, while you will see many old mansions showing the financial robustness of the region. It is worth taking a stroll in the village’s plateau viewing to the pine forest.
Really impressive is the abandoned Venetian village of Agios Demetrios and the churches of Saint Theodoros, the island’s protector, of Saint Anastasia, Saint John, Trinity and Saint Demetrios.
You will swim in the beach of Agia Pelagia, the best spot in north Kythira.
