Ialyssos

It is located 8km from the town of Rhodes, in the northwest part of the island.
Keeping the name of the ancient town-country, which flourished at the end of the 5th century BC, Iallisos can be the beginning of your tour around the island.
Characteristics of this region are the luxurious hotel units and beautiful neoclassic houses with palm trees in the central avenue.
The region is of important archaeological interest as it is inhabited since prehistoric times. In Trianta village have been discovered remains of minoic settlement, while mecaenaic cemeteries are found in the hills around.
The ancient town of Iallisos, one of the three biggest ancient towns in the island, extends around Filerimos¢ hill, where is the acropolis with the monuments of archaic, byzantine and knightly periods. Worth visiting are the remains of Poliados Athenas¢ temple, with engravements in the west side, which were used for devotional reasons.
