ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Ithaki has two archaeological museums. One is located in Vathi and one in Stavro. The archaeological museum of the capital hosts important findings from excavations in South Ithaki, Aetos and other regions. The visitor can see geometrical vessels, every day tools and coins.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF STAVROS
The archaeological museum of Stavros is located close to Pilikata. It is roofed under a 1933 building, which hosts important findings revealing the island’s history. Distinguish a clay woman mask with the inscription “EFHIN ODYSSY” and a statue representing Odysseus fastened to the ship’s mast trying to resist to Sirens’ song. If you visit it you will see many more important findings.
NAVAL – FOLKLORIC MUSEUM
The Naval – Folkloric Museum of Ithaki is hosted in a renovated building of DEH. It has a remarkable collection of more than 1500 exhibits. Among them distinguish: the old photos collection, the old musical instruments, the local apparels, the household tools and the collection with traditional naval equipment, proving the island’s historic tradition.
