MONASTERY OF KATHARON
The Monastery of Katharon is located close to the homonym village. Panagia Kathariotissa is the saint protector of the island. The local tradition speaks about two versions of the monastery’s foundation. According to the first, some farmers went to the region to burn some pot herbs. But they found an icon of Panagia between the herbs and decided to build a church ther. The second version connects the monastery’s foundation to the Catholic cult of Kathares.
It is known that the church of Panagia was built in 1696 and the monastery some time later. The church has a beautiful chancel screen, while from the bell tower you can see Ithaki’s port.

CHURCH OF ANOGI
Church of Anogi is dedicated to the Dormition of Theotokos and was built during the 12^th century. It is one of the most important churches in Valkania. The temple is of basilica style, covered with byzantine murals. It has been characterized a tenable historic monument. The multiple layers of murals show that the church was torn down and rebuilt at some time. Next to the church you will see the imposing bell tower of Venetian style, built in 1682.

SACRED CHURCH OF PANAGIA
The Sacred Church of Panagia in Linovrohia, as it is called the Metropolis of Ithaki, was built in 1800. A smaller church was there previously. Distinguishes the wooden chancel screen of after-byzantine art made in 1793. It was made by the craftsman from Metsovo Ioannis Pashoulitis.
Near the church you will see the famous bell tower with a beautiful stone structure. Its construction started in 1820 and finished at the beginnings of the 20^th century.
