Stavros

Stavros is the biggest village of north Ithaki, 16km from Vathi. It is one of the most important tourist resorts in the island. The village was built during the 16th century and since then is one of the most important trade centers in Ithaki. In the village’s square you can see Odysseus bust.
The region is of great historic and archaeological interest, as it is possible that this is the place where Odysseus palace was.
In Pilikata location, excavations brought into light the remains of an ancient settlement and important findings from mycenaec and hellenistic periods. All these are exhibited in the archaeological museum of Stavros. One of the most important is a clay mask dated from the 2nd BC with engraved the phrase “EFHIN ODYSSEY”.
Don’t miss visiting Loizos’ Cave, with remains of Saint Varvaras church, Zoodohos Pygi and Sotiros.
Swim in the small port of Poli, one of the most beautiful places in Stavros. In Stavros village you will find rooms to let, taverns and coffeehouses.
