Perachori

Perachori is built amphitheatrically right above Vathi. Close to the village you will see the medieval remains of an antecedent settlement, Paleochora, which was the first capital of Ithaki. The medieval architecture and the Byzantine churches impress all visitors with their murals.
In Marathia plateau the archaeological excavations brought into light the remains of Arethousa Krini and Korakos Petra.
A dense forest with self-sown trees is right above the village. The region produces fine olive oil and wine.
Worthwhile visiting is the monastery of Taxiarchs dated from the 16th century, southwest of the village.
