MONASTERY OF EVAGELISTRIA
The monastery of Evagelistria is one of the most important Byzantine monuments saved in Skopelos.
It is situated in the east part of Chora, 3km from the center. It was built during the 18th century by the literary man from Skopelos Daponte.
Highly impressive is the yard around the monastery and the interior, saved in a good condition with a beautiful chancel screen.
MONASTERY OF SAINT RIGINOS
This monastery has big historic and religious importance for the island. Inside the monastery’s yard is saved the grave of Saint Riginos, the protector saint of Skopelos.
The monastery is 3km south of Chora.
MONASTERY OF METAMORPHOSIS
The monastery of Metamorphosis is in the east part of the island. It is built according to the traditional architecture. The church has the shape of a cruciform with remarkable murals in its interior. Really impressive is the chancel screen.
MONASTERY OF PRODROMOS
The monastery of Prodromos was built during the 17th century. It is only 6km away from Chora. It is worth visiting and see the important ecclesiastic heirlooms it has. In the monastery are saved rare icons of the 14th century, canonicals and historic documents. Highly impressive is the floor enameled with tiles.
MONASTERY OF SAINT TAXIARCH
It is situated very close to Glossa settlement. It is part of Agio Oros. The old icons found inside the monastery have now transported to the church of Panagia in Chora. Really impressive is the wooden gilded chancel screen.
