As the boat reaches Skopelos port, the view of Chora captures your sight. A beautiful town with truly traditional feature starts from the port and ends to the Castle of ancient Peparithos.
It is the island’s capital that keeps its insular identity and travels visitors to past times. It has been characterized as one of the most beautiful and graphic Aegean towns.
As you walk around the cobblestone pavements you will find the hidden beauties of this island. Houses are built amphitheatrically on the mountain slopes. Most of them have two floors with tiles.
All buildings are built according to the venetian style. This is shown in Fragomagala, the neighborhood of Franks. But the latest houses are influenced by the traditional architecture of Thessaly and Macedonia. They all have small yards decorated with pots that create a dreamy scenery.
The whole town is full of churches. It is estimated that there are more than 120 churches in Chora and more than 380 churches and monasteries all around the island. Each one of them attracts thousands of believers. Among them distinguish that of Zoodohos Pygi, Basilica of Saint Apostles, the Dormation of Theotokos, Saint Spyridonas, Saint George and the basilica of Saint Demetrios.
The most important monasteries are located east of Chora. It is worth visiting the monastery of Evangelistria built in 1712 on the remains of an older castle as and the monastery of Episkopi at the south part of the town. Don’t miss visiting the folkloric museum of Skopelos. It is roofed under a three-storey building presenting the island’s cultural inheritance.
If you want to have a swim prefer the beaches of Glyfoneri or Agios Constantinos and the cove of Glysteri, north of Chora. You can reach both beaches by car or by boat. If you choose to visit Glysteri beach by boat, you will have the chance to see the cave of Trypiti. The boat enters from the one part of the cave and comes out of the other. You can also visit the close beaches of Stafylos, Milia, Elios and Loutraki.
Chora is the most developed in tourism region in the island. Here you will find hotels and rooms to let providing all comforts.

While you are in Skopelos forget all about diets and calories. The local cuisine is full of flavors. Cheese pies are famous for their taste. Try rofos fish stew and spoon sweets in almond flavor and plum. Accompany your meal with the local wine, which has a long tradition in the island.
