THE CASTLE OF PARIKIAS' TOWN
|
The castle of Parikia is in the center of the town's traditional settlement. It's one of the most beautiful and graphic neighborhoods in Paros. Every visitor should have a walk in the narrow streets and admire the concord of yesterday with today and the contiguity of different periods and styles. The castle hill is constantly inhabited since prehistoric times. This castle was built in the 13th century by Entices. For its construction were used parts of ancient temples and buildings. If you walk around the castle you will see a lot of small churches built during the byzantine times. Many of them-as the houses of the castletown- are incorporated to the walls of the castle or built along the road. Visit the church of Saint Anna, Panagia of Cross, Saint Marcus and the small church of Saint Constantine, which distinguishes for its excellent architecture and fantastic view. It is considered one of the most beautiful in Aegean Sea.
