Karpathos town - pigadia

Karpathos or Pigadia, as it is also known the capital and port of the island, is located in the southeast part of it, in the banks of mountain Kali Limni. It is built in the same location as the ancient town Potideo. On the top of the hill are saved parts of the ancient acropolis and of Cyclops walls.
The town of Karpathos is a modern state. Most of the houses and public buildings were built by expatriates from America, who made their vacation in this island. Touring around the town can be a pleasant experience for every visitor. Everywhere you will meet beautiful pictures that combine the island tradition with modern comforts. Among the sites, worth visiting are the remains of paleochristianic basilica of Saint Fotini on the coastal road. From the church’s architectonic members we understand that it was built on the bases of an ancient temple.
One of the island’s natural sites is the cave of Posidon. It is located in location Mili and was used as place of worship. The carved into rock temple was dedicated to Poseidon or Aphrodite.
Swim in the clean beaches around the port. The town’s extended beach attracts thousands of visitors. Very cosmopolitan are the beaches: Kira Panagia and Agios Nikolaos that distinguish for their good organization. You can approach the isolated beaches, closed gulfs and ports by boat. They combine a green surrounding with beautiful shores and crystal clear waters.
As the sun goes down walk under the moonlight and enjoy the magic scenery around the port. Follow the sound of music and discover the nightclubs where you will entertain until next morning. There are a lot of bars and clubs in Karpathos playing greek and foreign music. Any kind of music you prefer you will find the perfect place for you and your company.
While staying in Karpathos you will enjoy good food. Karpathos’ cuisine is famous for its unique recipes. Some of the most famous dishes are hilopites, makarounes, kofta and kouloures. Try desserts made with local pure ingredients. Among them distinguish baklavas, loukoumades and sousamomelo, wedding’s traditional sweet.
