Pirgos
|
Pirgos is the biggest village of Tinos, 30km from Chora. It is one of the most beautiful villages in the island and of the most graphic in Cyclades islands. Its baronial architecture and authenticity give it a special atmosphere. The white houses of Pirgos are decorated with marble transoms and stairs. While in the plateau the visitor is impressed by the marble faucet made in 1778. The more you walk in the fresh white-washed paths, the more you are charmed by their uniqueness.
Pirgos is the village of artists. The sculptors Giannoulis Halepas and Dimitrios Filippotis were born there.
It is worth visiting the house of Halepa, the famous sculptor, which has now turned into a museum, and the sculpture workshop of the village.
If you care for a swim prefer the nearby beach of Panormos. You can also approach the beaches of Agios Nikolaos, Kavalourko and Agia Thalassa.
