Chora- tinos
|
Chora, the capital of Tinos, is a beautiful city with glow and charm but mostly with the grace of Panagia, the Protector of the island. From the port begins the avenue of Megalochari that ends to the baronial church of Panagia of Tinos. Its characteristic is that on the right of the church is being put a long carpet that ends to the yard of the church for the believers that come kneeling in order to fulfill their vow. Along the road are a lot of shops with church candles and oblations. Going up the road and seeing the imposing church, you are overwhelmed by the majestic atmosphere.
After the worship to Panagia the visitor's interest turns to the town and its beauties.
Chora is located around the busy port of the island. It is a densely populated city, according to the architecture of Cyclades islands. Walking in the cobblestone pavements you will meet a lot of small churches and quiet neighborhoods. While in the most central roads, the tourist shops with souvenirs and icons will temptate you. Along the coastal road you will find many restaurants where you will taste the local cuisine and coffeehouses to relax and enjoy your coffee.
Chora has very good local transport. KTEL buses with frequent schedule connect the town with the villages and the coastal settlements of the island.
