|
Apollonia or Polonia is a small fish village built around a graphic gulf. It is located in the east part of the island, 14 km from the village of Plaka. Due to its natural beauty and the antiquities, Apollonia has become a highly organized summer resort and it's very popular to the island's visitors. Very close to the settlement, on the road from Adamantas to Apollonia, are located the remains of the ancient town Filakopi, which-according to the findings -flourished in three different periods. In the same spot, near the archaeological site, is located the cave of Papafraga. One of the most famous natural sites in the island. Three caves with white rocks carved by the waves, unique pieces of art that only nature is able to make. From the small port of Apollonia there are every day routes to Kimolos.
