Near this graphic port, the visitor can see the catacombs, the most important religious monument of the island. These catacombs, in which Christians found shelter during persecution times, were also used as cemeteries. They were made in the 1st century and were in use until the end of the 5th century. On the road from Plaka to Klima you can see the remains of an ancient theater. In this spot in 1820 a farmer discovered the famous statue of Aphrodite. Today this statue is in Louver's museum.
