ABOUT KYTHNOS

Kythnos or Thermia is extended in an area of 99 sq. Km. and is situated in a distance of 52 n.m. (2 hours 40’) from Piraeus.
The island has two villages, Kythno (Hora or Messaria) and Dryopida (Horio or Syllaka). Each village has its own serving port: Hora has the port of Loutra and Dryopida has Meriha.
Hora, capital of the island, is built in the 17th century amphitheatrically in a hillside and is a magnificent settlement with Cycladic architectural characteristics.
Merihas, harbour of the island and port serving Dryopida, gives the visitors the possibility of every kind of amusement. In the road leading from Hora to Meriha, near the bay of Episkopi, there are the ruins of the ancient city of Kythnos dwelling of which has begun since the 10th century B.C.
The summer by the sea resort Loutra has very good touristical infrastructure having sufficient tourism. Loutra was named after the curative springs famous since Antiquity that well up sulphated, mineral waters. There are two warm springs , one of which is of St. Anargyri and it is located in the hydro-sanatorium while the other one, the spring of Kakavos is in a distance of approximately 50 metres.
Panaghia Kanala, a by the sea village, took its name after the homonym church. It is situated 16 km. south-east of Hora and is surrounded by the unique pine-forest of the island.
