Neochori
 |
Neochori is one of the most beautiful main villages of Pelion, combining natural beauty with a rich, centuries-old history. Serving as the seat of the Afetes Municipality, the village is built amphitheatrically in the center of the Magnesia peninsula, on the southeastern slopes of the Pelion mountains, at an altitude of 480 m, offering stunning views of the Aegean Sea and the Pagasitikos Gulf. It is located 35 km from Volos.
Neochori stands out for its traditional character. The village houses are built according to the classic Pelion architectural style. Strolling through its well-kept cobblestone streets and enjoying a coffee in the charming paved square is a must.
To fully appreciate the area, visit the Panagiotiko Dam to the west of Neochori, with its beautiful artificial lake. The dense forest of pine and conifer trees—one of the largest in Greece—along with chestnuts, plane trees, and arbutus surrounding Neochori, complemented by the picturesque streams, creates a breathtaking natural mosaic.
Also, explore the old Monastery of Panagia Tourkoyianni and the Church of Panagia Plakiotissa, dating back to 1655. At the edge of the village, you will find the quarries where the famous Pelion stone slabs are extracted.
