Ano gatzea / agia triada
 |
The neighboring villages of Ano Gatzea and Agia Triada are located just before the junction leading to Kato Gatzea, at a distance of 16 km from Volos. These settlements are literally built amidst the lush greenery of olive groves.
The view of Ano Gatzea is especially idyllic, as the village spreads along the mountainside, with the tiled roofs of traditional Pelion-style houses peeking out among the olive trees.
The famous Pelion train also passes through here and makes a stop in the village. Be sure to visit the Pelion Olive and Oil Museum, housed on the ground floor of a traditional building, where you can see tools used for sorting and processing olives, such as storage jars, presses, and vats.
We also recommend walking along the railway line to admire up close the famous five-arched stone bridge by Evaristo de Chirico and the large tunnel through which the renowned Pelion train, “O Moutzouris”, passes.
Immediately after Ano Gatzea, you will reach the village of Agia Triada, which is similarly nestled among olive groves. Here, you can visit the Agia Triada Monastery, dating back to 1816, which today operates as a male monastery. Built on a hill, it stands out for its imposing architecture and historical significance.
