DISCOVERING VATHI

Discovering Vathy reveals a town with a captivating dual personality. On one side, the vibrant waterfront bustles with a modern market, lively cafes, and a long promenade perfect for an evening stroll. On the other side, history enthusiasts will uncover hidden architectural gems in the narrow streets just behind the harbor front, where grand neoclassical mansions stand as testaments to the island's rich commercial past.

The real journey through time begins with a visit to the Archaeological Museum, one of the most important in Greece, which houses the awe-inspiring Colossal Kouros and unique artifacts from the Heraion. Following this, the path leads uphill to Ano Vathy, a historic, preserved settlement with an entirely different atmosphere. Here, time seems to stand still among traditional houses with distinct overhanging balconies, old stone fountains, and cobblestone alleys that offer panoramic views of the entire bay.

The discovery experience comes together by sampling the local gastronomy in the small, authentic tavernas tucked away in the settlement. Vathy serves as the perfect base for exploring nearby lush coastlines, such as the organized Gangou beach, or setting off on hikes up the surrounding green hillsides. It is a destination that rewards those who take the time to walk its paths and seek out its authentic island soul.
