Marathokampos is also home to Pythagoras¢ Cave, where, according to legend, the great ancient mathematician found refuge while being pursued by Polycrates. Nearby, another cave houses the Church of Panagia Sarantaskaliotissa, adorned with remarkable frescoes.
To the west of Marathokampos, you can visit the Kakoperato Cave, whose interior is decorated with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites.
