Argos Orestiko is the second in size city after Kastoria and the most important trade center of the prefecture after the capital. It is located 12 km north of Kastoria in an altitude of 660 m.
The ancient city Argos Orestiko was the homeland of Oreton Makedonon, a tribe from Peloponese.
The current city was established during the 15th century and met times of bloom. Here, are found many fur manufacturers that have offered great financial support to Kastoria.
It is worth visiting the Byzantine church of Saint George with the impressive interior decoration.
During your stay in Argos Orestiko don’t miss visiting the petrified forest in Asproklisia, in location Nostimo. It is a very important natural monument, which provides information about the region’s fauna and flora millions of years ago. An important collection of Paleontological findings is exhibited at the village’s Elementary School.
