Florina distinguishes for its natural beauties and the alternations of scenery. It lies in the northwest part of Greece. Northwards it borders with FYROM, northwest with Albania, southwest with Kastoria and eastwards – southeast with Pella and Kozani Prefectures.
The Municipality of Florina is comprised by the municipalities of Aetos, Aminteo, Kato Klines, Melitis, Filota, Perasma, Prespes and Florina, and the communities of Variko, Kristallopigi, Lehovo and Nimfeo.
The Prefecture is mostly mountainous with seven truly imposing mountains. Varnountas lies in the northwest part of the prefecture. Vernos mountain is in the west part close to Kastoria. It is the natural continuance of Varnous mountain. The crossing of Pisoderi separates the two mountains. Vernos has many running waters and acorn trees. Triklario lies in the west part of the municipality in the confines with Albania and close to the Mikri Prespa lake. It is the southwest branch of Varnountas mountain.
Voras mountain, lies in a 2.524 altitude in the highest part of the prefecture. It is the third tallest mountain in Greece. Boutsi is in the southwest end of the Prefecture, where it borders with Kastoria prefecture. The mountainous crossing of Kristallopigi separates the two mountains. Tsoutsouli is next to the Mikri Prespa lake in the confines with Albania. Devas is between the Megali and Mikri Prespa in an altitude of 1.373 m.
Florina Prefecture is surrounded by six lakes. The Megali and the Mikri Prespa, which are very close to each other. They are only separated by a narrow strip of land. The lakes of Himaditida and Zazari, which are also separated by a narrow strip of land of two kilometers width. The closest settlements to the lakes are Limnohori, at the shores of Zazari Lake.
Petres lake lies one kilometer northwest of Aminteo and very close to Vegoritida lake. The two lakes are connected through a natural trench and an artificial underground tunnel. Vegoritida or Agios Panteleimonas lake lies between Florina and Pella prefectures.
