Vathis

Vathi or Vathis, as the locals call it, is built in a green verdurous valley. It is located in the east part of the island, 12km from Pothia. It has a small graphic port, Rina. Characteristic is that it is located in a narrow cove with high and abrupt rocks in its two sides and a quiet blue sea in the middle. Swimming in that beach is a special experience that every visitor should experience.
The region is of great archaeological interest. In location Stimena you will see the remains of prehistoric Acropolis. In Metohi are the remains of an ancient temple and close to the port, the remains of a Tower from classic times. One of the most important monuments in the island is the castle-monastery of Panagia Kira-Psili, north of Vathi. According to tradition, it was built by a man from Kalymnos who had forsake religion and when he came back home, he remembered his roots and believed again in God.
Swim in the small gulfs around Rina. You will find clean beaches with pebbles.
