Kastraki
|
Kastraki is a picturesque village 24 km form Trikala.
It is one of the most developed in tourism villages as it is very close to Kalambaka, on the way to Meteora. Despite this development, people still have a traditional way of living. Right above this village, are standing imposing and gigantic the rocks that resemble those of Meteora. The spectacle is unique. This community was created during the Turkish rule, when Greeks from Epirus came here to hide from Ali Passa, the dynast of Ioannina. Architecturally, the old settlement is very impressive and is ideal for long walks.
It is said that the village was named after the Byzantine castle. The remains of this castle are saved to our days.
It is worth visiting the church of the Dormition that dates back to the 16th century, as and the church of Saint Nikolas with impressive morals from the 1794.
Kastraki is the ideal place to begin your exploration to the region. Especially during the past years, it has evolved to a tourist resort with hotels, rooms to let, camping, taverns and restaurants that will make your stay more pleasant.
