After one founds himself in Ioannina, in the beautiful capital of Ipeiros with the thousand years history, and after wondering in the city and enjoying the amazing spectacle of Pamvotida, the idyllic lake of our homeland, it is essential to visit one of the more rare caverns of the world.

The Cavern Perama of Ioannina abstains almost four kilometres from the city of Ioannina. It occupies an extent of 14.800sq.m, from them 1.100sq.m. constitute the tourist way. The conducted tour lasts 45 minutes. One can visit the Cavern from 08.00 in the morning until the west of the sun daily. HISTORICAL REPORT

The Cavern was discovered accidentally in 1940, at the duration of the 2nd World war, as the residents of the village tried to find shelter from the bombardments.

With the ending of the war Konstantinos Kasvikis, gymnast and amateur speleologist, was found in Perama, where with his team took photographs that were published in the local and Athenian press. By that way Ioannis and Anna Petroheilou learned about the Cavern Perama, visited the cavern and began a systematic exploration and mapping of the Cavern, so that it is developed to a tourist place.

The Cavern Perama of Ioannina is one of the most beautiful in the Balkans. Caverns, that nature created in the guts of the hill Gkoritsa in a three-storey palace about 1.500.000 years ago. The "exhibits" that are presented are from the richest , since in other caverns are also made 6-10 species of stalactites and stalagmites, while in Cavern Perama they reach the 19. We also meet graphic lakes where the stalactites and stalagmites are reflected in crystal waters.

In the exit of the Cavern 25m higher from the entry, the visitor sees a splendid view so much of the city of Ioannina, as much of the legendary lake Pamvotida, famous about the historical legend of Madame Frosini and Ali Pasha, and with an exterior graphic path that returns in the entry of the Cavern.

Perama presents an intense tourist interest as it is a region with historical and cultural heritage. The region is famous about its elaborate silvers, that are handmade and for this they are of separate beauty. The last year's new persons deal systematically with silvery and the combination of the traditional with the modern gives art a new blow.
