|
Galazies Spilies (blue caves) are the most photographed natural site of Zakynthos, after Navagio beach. They were discovered in 1897 and attract thousands of visitors every year. They are situated in the north end of the island in the northeast shore of gulf Skinari. They are consisted by consecutive chambers that end to Megali and Mikri Spilia. Their name is due to the blue colour of their waters. The biggest of these caves is the famous Kuanoun Spileo (cave).
You can tour around these caves by boats that leave from the town port or by fish boats from the small port of Nikolaos Volimon.
The best time to visit the caves is early in the morning. The mirrors then from sunrays make various colourings to the waters.
Galazies Spilies are one of the places you definitely have to visit while you are in Zakynthos.
