Bochali
|
Bochali is one of the most beautiful districts of Zakynthos. The settlement is built around the homonym hill, with the abandoned Venetian castle on the top of it. The region is constantly inhabited since ancient times. The castle used to be the island’s capital. But now most of the mansions are ruined. The residents of Bochali staying true to the traditional way of life, do their best to preserve these historic buildings. A stroll around the settlement enchants every visitor. The houses with flowered yards, the old mansions and the zakynthian music take visitors to past times.
The region of Bochali is one of the most developed in tourism. Its privileged location and the beautiful view to Ionian Sea and the town, make it ideal for accommodation and entertainment. Here you will find hotels of all categories and some of the best restaurants in the town. Nightlife is high.
In the settlement’s square you will see the church of Panagia Chrisopygi or of Zoodochos Pygi with the tall bell tower. Inside the church is kept the icon of Panagia dated from the middle of the 8th century.
Excavations brought into light findings proving the existence of temples dedicated to Apollo and Aphrodite.
