Sikinos is an island with age-long history.
According to mythology the island was named after Sikino, the son of Limnos’ king, Thoada.
During ancient times it was names Inoi, because in the island flourished viniculture and produced fine wine.
In 10th BC Sikinos was inhabited by Ions. During the 5th BC the island was under the domination of Athens.
In the course of history, Sikinos followed the fate of Cyclades islands.
It met the predominance of Romans, Byzantines, Venetians and Turkish. During venetian domination it belonged to the Ducat of Naxos. In 1537 Turkish came to the island. It was adjusted to the rest of Greece in 1829.
