MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
|
The museum of Natural History in Rhodes is built and operates in the Valley of Butterflies after initiative of the Nomarchy of Butterflies.
It is roofed under a renovated and appropriate formed building of the 1930. It provides visitors the possibility to combine the enjoyment of a walk in the green valley with a responsible scientific update about the fauna and flora of this unique biotope.
Exhibits are presented in display cases showing the conditions of the natural environment. Among these exhibits the visitor can see endemic and rare species that live in the valley, as, minerals and rocks from different places in Greece.
Interesting is the incubator-showcase of butterflies with live exhibits, which are reproduced and preserved in a special glass-house in the museum’s garden.
Inside the museum you can see a library and a modern entomological and botanical laboratory.
The museum contributes to the tourist development of the region and it’s an important center of environmental education, information, scientific research and study of the local ecosystem.
