Marpissa
|
Marpissa is another village of Paros that keeps the tradition of Cyclades islands not only in its structure but also in the way its residents live, keeping the folkways of their anchestors. It is located in the east side of Parikia, 17km from the center. It is built amphitheatrically on a small hill. The architecture of this village is really interesting. Most of the houses are dated from the 16th and 17th century and are in good condition. A walk in the streets reveals the charm of simplicity and a meeting with the residents their warm hospitality. Marpissa has a lot of graphic mill-turnstiles and byzantine churches. Among them distinguish the church of Saint Demetrios and Evagelistrias. The Metropolitan church of the village was built in 1960 and it's dedicated to Metamorphosis of Sotiros. In the east side of Marpissa is the hill of Kefalos. There you will see the remains of the Enetics castle, built in the 15th century. In this castle Somarippa's fought against the Turkish pirate Barbarosa and lost. It was then that Barbarosa ruined the castle. From Marpissa you can approach some of the most famous beaches in the island like Drio, Piso Livadi, Logara, Pounda and Golden Beach.
