Innsbruck is a beautiful and enchanting city of the west Austria. It is located in a magnificent valley (575m height) close to the borders with Italy. Innsbruck is the capital city of the federal state of Tyrol.
Innsbruck is a city with long history, which flourished during the Habsburg almightiness. The imposing palaces and the constructions of the 15th and the 16th century reveal a lot about that era.
Nowadays the city is more known as a ski resort. There are five ski centers on the outskirts of Innsbruck, a pole of attraction for the lovers of ski.
Innsbruck hosted the Winter Olympics twice (in 1964 and 1976). It was then that the city created the appropriate infrastructures in order to be listed amongst the most popular winter resorts in Europe.
Don’t miss visiting the famous ski center of Seefeld, only 30 minutes by train from Innsbruck. If you want to stay in the area, Igls, at the foothills of Patscherkοfel Mount, is a good choice. It is only 20 – 30 minutes from the city, plus you get the chance to meet the local traditions.
A tour around Innsbruck can be a once in a lifetime experience for every visitor. At the city of Maria Theresia, as many people call it, you will see the Triumphpforte, the City Hall, the Golden Roof, the St. Jacob's Cathedral, the Kaiserliche Hofburg (palace), the Hofkirche (Imperial Church) and the cenotaph of Maximilian.
Walk at the picturesque paths of the medieval district and visit the Folkloric Museum. Make a walk at the Maria – Theresien Strasse (Main Street).
