Local festivals give colour and glow in the island. If the days of your staying in Koufonisia match with some local celebration, you will experience something unique.
Protector of the island is Saint George. On the day of his celebration (Monday after Easter) after church is being held the procession of the icon. An islander votary to the Saint goes around the island holding the icon in his hands. The roads that he passes by are full of roses. The procession ends in the village and follows a traditional feast. Food and fine are offered to everybody.
A big celebration is held also on the 20^th of July in the name of Prophet Elia and on August 15^th. All residents from Epano Koufonisi then go to Kato Koufonisi by fish boats. After church is following a feast with local food. On the way back there is a speed race between fish boats on which will enter the port first.
