Tilos is inhabited since neolithic age and has an important historic route to show.
Cretes and Myceneans inhabited the island. Around 1000 BC Dorians came to the island. In 700 BC Rhodians from Lindos colonized the island.
The 7th BC was an important historic period for Tilos. The island then established, along with Lindians, the colony Gela in Sicily.
The time of bloom went on in Classic age, when Tilos cut its own coin and was a strong naval force.
Later Tilos followed a common route with Rhodes and Kos. Romans conquered it in 42 BC.
In 1310 the Knights of Saint John conquered Tilos.
In 1522 Turkish domain the island and 1912, Tilos as all Dodecanese islands is under Italian possession.
Tilos incorporated to Greece in 1948.
