The village of Dafni, formerly known as Strezova, is located at the southern edge of Kalavryta, north of Lake Ladonas. Perched at an altitude of 620 meters on the slopes of Agios Mamas, it stretches across a lush, green hillside.
The recorded history of the village dates back to the 7th century, when it was called Strezova, a name attributed to the Slavs who once inhabited the area. Strezova is also mentioned in Frankish documents from 1250. The village played a significant role during the Greek War of Independence in 1821, with local fighters contributing to the struggle for freedom.
In 1928, Strezova was renamed Dafni. According to local legend, the name is inspired by the myth of Daphne, the daughter of the river Ladonas, and the god Apollo, which took place along the banks of the Ladonas River within the area of the village.
Today, Dafni is the seat of the Paion municipality in Achaia and has developed into a beautiful, picturesque village that preserves its traditional identity.
