The monastery of Taxiarchon is the most important monument in the island. It is close to village Galini, 8km from Chora. The monastery was built during the 17^th century and looks like a fortress. It is dedicated to Archangels Mihail and Gabriil, the island’s protectors.
The monastery is surrounded by a wall, which protected her from plunders and pirate invasions, as it was known that it had worthless treasures inside her.
