Fri is the capital and the island’s port. The residents of village Agia Marina, who headed down to the coast, built the settlement in 1840.
Next to the port’s central jetty that anchors the line ship, is located the small port of Bouka full of fish boats.
Touring around the capital can be really enchanting. Beautiful, well preserved mansions, double-decked houses of traditional architecture and stone buildings, create an idyllic picture.
In front of the City Hall you will see the Holocaust monument of 7th June 1824.
Worth visiting is the church of Saint Spyridonas, with a delicate wooden chancel screen and an impressive bell tower.
The church of Saint John of Vrisi, as it is named from the spring close to it with the only running water in Kasos. The old city hall is hosting the Archaeological and Folkloric Collection of the island. It includes coins, vessels, inscriptions and a remarkable folkloric collection.
Fri is the main tourist resort in Kasos. Here you will find the most hotels and rooms to let of the island.
In the taverns you will taste the local specialties.
Among them distinguishes the local recipe “pasparas”, meat filled with liver, lungs, rise and dried fruits.
The island is famous for its traditional feasts.
In the coffee houses and taverns are organized in daily bases dances with sounds and pictures of the dodecanesean tradition.
