Panormitis

Panormitis is one of the most important religious pilgrimage sites in Symi and the wider Dodecanese region. It is located in a quiet, sheltered bay on the southern part of the island and is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, who is considered the protector of Symi. The monastic complex combines sea and mountains, creating a particularly peaceful and impressive landscape.

The Monastery of Panormitis has great historical and religious significance, attracting thousands of pilgrims every year from Greece and abroad. The site includes the main church, courtyards, monks' cells, and a small museum with offerings (votive gifts) and ecclesiastical relics. The tradition of leaving votive offerings is a distinctive feature of the monastery and reflects the devotion of visitors to the Archangel Michael.

Today, Panormitis serves both as a spiritual destination and as an important excursion spot for visitors to Symi. Many people arrive by boat or ferry to pray, light a candle, and enjoy the calm atmosphere of the bay.
