Chorio, the island’s capital, is built in the southeast part of Kimolos 1km from the port. It is consisted by two settlements, Mesa Kastro and Exo Kastro, which communicate to each other by four entrances – passages, the so-called Portares.
Mesa Kastro is built around the center of the medieval castle. The outdoor walls of old houses are merged and create the fort of the castle. It is a characteristic sample of the Aegean architecture of fortresses. Narrow cobblestone pavements and many churches comprise the scenery of this settlement that takes visitors back to past times.
Another characteristic of Chorio is the existence of many churches. Small graphic churches and grandiose temples attract the attention. Among them distinguishes the church of Christ, which according to the inscription was built in 1952.
The settlement of Exo Kastro was built in the 17th century and extends around the Castle’s fortifications. Its architecture is plain and stays tune to the tradition of Cyclades islands.

While exploring the island, in location Ellinika you will see the remains of the ancient town. In region Prasa kimolia is being excavated, one of the basic ingredients to make porcelain.
