Our love for nature and traditional architecture brought us to Prespa. Now we come so often that we almost live here.
We love places where, although they excel, tend to disappear. Our civilization, devours the earth – and aesthetics – so rapidly, that it seems in vain, to place a pebble on the other side of the scales.
It is a dream, but it seems real. It is a truth that seems like a dream.
In the area of Prespes, the only village that still has preserved all of the old stone houses, is Agios Germanos. It is located at an altitude of approximately 1,100 meters (3,606 feet), on a hillside of the Varnoundas Mountain range. It is 7 kilometers (4 miles) from the Prespes lakes, which can be seen from a panoramic location of the village, 45km (28 miles) from Florina, and 44km (27,5 miles) from Kastoria.
In the town square, across from the old Byzantine church, the traditional hotel “Agios Germanos” is located. It has 10 rooms, in which 27 or more people can be accommodated, in cooperation with a nearby guesthouse.
Our rooms are located in two adjoining renovated buildings, which have been preserved – remarkable examples of local architecture. All feature a private bath, central heating with individual heat control. The majority also have a fireplace. In the courtyard, there’s a third building, which is used as a reception area, living room and cafe.
Breakfast which is served here, begins with beverages, homemade marmalade, honey, eggs, cheese and can be enriched with home made pitas, and traditional Greek pasta (“trachanas” and “chylopittes”.) Here, someone can enjoy their afternoon coffee or evening drink. |
