|
Thessaly in Central Greece is an ideal place for holidays both in summer and winter. The landscape is magnificent all year round. The visitor can enjoy exhilarating summer sports, peaceful hiking in the woods and exciting moments in well-equipped ski centers. There are infinite choices in the prefecture of Magnesia: amazing beaches, magnificent scenery on the slopes of Mount Pelio, culinary challenges in local restaurants called "tsipouradika" in Volos. Delving deeper, one can see traces of ancient settlements going back to the Neolithic Age. Larissa, Karditsa, Trikala: indescribable beauty in the area of Plastiras Lake, awe and faith flooding the cliff-top monasteries of the Meteora, a unique natural landmark, mountainous villages, warm hospitality everywhere.
Larissa
The prefecture of Larissa borders to the north with the prefecture of Pieria and Kozani, to the west with the prefectures of Grevena, Trikala and Karditsa, to the south with the prefectures of Fthiotida and Magnisia and to the east it is washed by the Aegean Sea.
The area is ideal for pleasant excursions to wooded mountains, charming villages, and vast beaches. You will visit ancient remains and monuments, the verdant valley of Tempi that is run through by the river Pinios, and you will take scenic routes traversing Mt Olympos.
Karditsa
The prefecture borders to the north with the prefecture of Trikala, to the east with the prefecture of Larissa, to the south with the prefectures of Fthiotida and Evritania and to the west with the prefecture of Arta.
Rivers flowing from thickly wooded forests traverse the prefecture, watering planes, willow trees and the fertile plain with the cotton fields.
The snowy peaks of Mt Agrafa are reflected in the waters of the artificial lake of Plastiras. The stone houses on the banks of the beautiful lake are "drowned" in trees making up scenery of rare beauty.
