About Spetses
In the most southern part of Argosaronic Gulf Spetses is located with the pine forests and new-classical mansions, in extent of 22 sq.km. and in a distance of 53 n.m. (4 hours 30’ by ferryboat) from Piraeus. The old shiyards, the mansions of the captains of vessels of last century, the picturesque churches, squares and narrow streets pebble –paved, as well as the carts with the horses give the island an air of romanticism and delightfulness. In the historical square of Dapia there are the cannons used by the inhabitants of the island in 1821. The road leads from Dapia to the old harbour. Many mansions are found along the seaside. In the House of Hatzi-yanni Mexis, first notable landlord of Spetses today there is the museum with heirlooms of the Revolution. Behind Dapia you can visit the House of Bouboulina, while near the Possidonio Hotel there is the Anargyrios-Korgialenios School established in 1927. Near St.Nicolas there is the Kapoditrian Cultural Club with remarkable library. Spetses is an island of fascinating natural beauty perfectly combining the green landscape full of pines with the sea and the innumerable picturesque bays.
