About Serbia Montenegro
Serbia and Montenegro was a country in Southeast Europe that existed from 2003 to 2006. It was the last remaining state of the former Yugoslavia and consisted of two republics: Serbia and Montenegro. Its capital was Belgrade, which also served as the largest political, economic, and cultural center.
The union was created after the breakup of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, as a looser state arrangement intended to keep Serbia and Montenegro together while allowing greater autonomy for each republic. During this period, both republics shared certain institutions such as defense and foreign policy, but they also maintained separate economic systems and increasing political independence.
In 2006, Montenegro held a referendum and voted for independence, leading to the peaceful dissolution of the state. After this, Serbia and Montenegro became fully independent countries. The separation marked the final stage in the breakup of Yugoslavia and reshaped the political map of the Balkans.
